The Ninth Meeting of the Singapore-Nanjing Key Project Cooperation Committee was held on Oct 18 on Singapore Nanjing Eco Hi-tech Island.

A series of key Singapore-Nanjing cooperation projects were signed into effect during the meeting.

An unveiling ceremony was held for the Jiangsu Representative Office of the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry as well.

Participants also witnessed the launch of Eco Hi-tech Island Special Fund for Industry Development of the island.

Nanjing Acting Mayor Xia Xinmin made a speech at the event, pointing out that the island has become a window for Nanjing's innovative and green development thanks to contributions made by people from all walks of life.

Xia said that the development of the island will be further boosted through attracting quality industrial projects, promoting the agglomeration of leading industries, developing high-end service industries, and pushing forward innovative cooperation.

Last October, the Singapore Nanjing Eco Hi-tech Island China (Jiangsu) Pilot Free Trade Zone Nanjing Area Linkage Innovation Development Area was unveiled.

Xia added that FTZ development is another priority. Endeavors will be made to promote free and convenient trade, investment, cross-border capital flow, personnel entry and exit, and transportation between Nanjing and Singapore. He expressed hope that the institutional costs of two-way investment and trade can be further reduced.

A particular emphasis is laid on energy conservation and carbon reduction. The two sides should work together to build a green development platform and strive to create a new model of green development cooperation, Xia stated.

Koh Poh Koon, senior minister of State for Health and Manpower of Singapore, revealed in his speech that Singapore will focus on the Eco High-tech Island and other projects to help Nanjing accelerate its development into a leading national innovative city and an international consumption center city.

The Singapore-Nanjing Key Project Cooperation Committee has done a solid job since its establishment. It convened its first meeting in 2013.

Over the past eight years, Nanjing has approved and set up a total of 117 Singapore-funded projects, with a contractual use of $1.8 billion in Singapore capital and an actual use of $1.24 billion.

From January to August this year, the city approved 17 projects with Singapore investment, and the total bilateral import and export volume increased by 28 percent.
