Conference sets stage for closer business cooperation between China and Singapore

The Singapore-Nanjing Economic and Trade Exchange Conference was held at the Singapore Nanjing Eco Hi-tech Island in Nanjing on Nov 8. The conference is a supporting activity of the 6th China International Import Expo aimed at promoting economic and trade exchange. It gathered representatives from more than 40 companies in Singapore or Nanjing for investment negotiations, further promoting interactions and mutually-beneficial cooperation between companies on both sides.


This event was guided by the Nanjing Municipal People's Government, Jiangsu Provincial Department of Commerce, and Enterprise Singapore, hosted by the Nanjing Municipal Bureau of Commerce, People's Government of Jianye District, and Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and co-hosted by the Jiangsu Nanjing Eco Hi-tech Island Economic Development Zone Management Committee, and Singapore Nanjing Eco Hi-tech Island Development Co Ltd. The event attracted more than 20 key Singaporean companies, including Sembcorp Group, Jumbo Group, and Interplan Group, to discuss investment and cooperation.

Deng Zhiyi, member of the Standing Committee of CPC Nanjing Municipal Committee and vice mayor of the Nanjing Municipal People's Government, expressed his gratitude to those who have long cared about and supported the development of Nanjing. He said that the official interactions between Singapore and Nanjing are frequent and close, economic and trade relations have grown stronger over time, cooperation on innovation is robust, and people-to-people exchanges are lively. The Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry plays an important role in promoting cooperation and exchanges between Singapore andNanjing infields such as investment and trade. It is hoped that the two sides will further deepen cooperation in the future by focusing on two-way investment and trade, expanded opening up of the service industry, and open innovation.


Kho Choon Keng, president of the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry and executive chairman of Lian Huat Group, said: "The Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry just organized the 'Promotion Conference on the Opening Up and High-quality Development of the Service Industry in Nanjing, China' last month in Singapore, which was jointly hosted by Nanjing. I am very happy to experience firsthand Nanjing's urban charm and economic pulse today, and the delegation members are all from Singaporean companies that do business here or are interested in investing here. I believe that they will lead to fruitful results, and the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry will continue to bring more companies and business opportunities to Nanjing."


During the meeting, Lu Hong, deputy director of the Jiangsu Nanjing Eco Hi-tech Island Economic and Development Zone Management Committee, made a presentation on the island's land planning, ecological protection and policies. The event also invited representatives from Chinese and Singapore companies such as Jiangsu Environmental Protection Group,Interplan Group, Royal Golden Eagle Group,  Tat HongZhaomao Investment Co Ltd and JSTI Group to address and discuss future cooperation and development.


On the day of the event, the delegation also visited Xin Wei Yi Technology Park, YOG Forest Park, and the Jiangsu Representative Office of the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce& Industry in Jiangdao Intelligence Cube on the island to further understand the island's industrial positioning and investment policies and development prospects.

At present, the island is aims to build a "two-wheel drive" industrial system, which oriented by industries like new-generation information technology and ecological and environmental protection. The industries will focus on AI and water science respectively. So far, 19 industrial projects such as Huatai Securities R&D and Training Center and Jiangsu Environmental Protection Group Innovation Base have been settled on the island, 7 projects have been completed and 9 projects have started construction.


In the future, the island will continue to introduce global top 500 companies and top talent teams to create an international industrial park that integrates scientific technological research and development, innovative intelligence and high-end headquarters, as well as an international development platform that effectively connects high-tech projects with international capital.


Nanjing is an important central city in eastern China and amega-city in the Yangtze River Delta, as determined by the national plan. It plays a significant role in national development and has huge development potential. Singapore Nanjing Eco Hi-tech Island is a pearl in the Yangtze River and provides a strong development platform for entrepreneurs and investors from both countries. As the relationship between China and Singapore continues to deepen, economic and trade cooperation between Nanjing and Singapore will be further strengthened. Both China and Singapore will work together to build the Singapore Nanjing Eco Hi-tech Island into a model of industrial innovative cooperation between the two countries.
